What is the Hall of Fame?
The Basketball Hall of Fame is the pantheon of players, coaches and others who have left their mark on the history of basketball. Located in Springfield (Massachusetts), this museum, created in 1961, celebrates all the legends of hoops. Hall of Fame members are elected by a selection committee made up of journalists, former players and other experts. Their names are confidential, and the selection of inductees is carried out with the utmost secrecy.
Tony Parker's induction into the Hall of Fame
On April 1, 2023, Tony Parker was elected by the NBA community as a member of the 2023 Hall Of Fame class. The ceremony will be held on August 12 in Springfield, where the inductees will give emotional speeches before being honored for their magnificent careers.
He was joined in the 2023 line-up by his coach at the Spurs, Gregg Popovich, and his assistant and WNBA star, Becky Hammon. Spain's Pau Gasol and Germany's Dirk Nowitzki will also were at his side. These two players symbolize the internationalization of the NBA, in which the Frenchman has also played a full part. Dwyane Wade, Miami Heat legend and team-mate of Lebron James at the Heatles, was also part of this promotion.
Tony is the first French player to be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame, not only for his incredible career but also for his pioneering role in the development of basketball in France and Europe.
Tony Parker (for L'Équipe newspaper): "I can't believe it. It's crazy. I'm moved, nostalgic, it's incredible to be with all these Hall of Fame legends. Even in my wildest dreams, I couldn't have imagined being in the Basketball Hall of Fame. It's an honor to be the first Frenchman to be included, and I've always taken my role as ambassador of French basketball very seriously. It was a great motivation for me to show the Americans that the French play basketball. Being the first Frenchman NBA champion and also the first All-Star was very important to me. I've had a lot of very touching messages, which is really nice."
